Introduction to Diversity
Diversity can be seen in living things and non-living things. Living things are like, plants, animal and micro-organism. Living things come in different shapes and sizes, some are big and some are small. Some are tall and some are short. Some living things that are so small that you have to use a microscope in order to see them, while others can reach heights of more than 100 metres. Living things also vary in other ways, like how they obtain energy, how they move and their habitats.

Diversity can be seen in non living things too, as mentioned above. Non-living things can be made up of different types of materials, like, rubber, plastic, etc. Different materials also have different characteristics/properties. Examples are, rubber are elastic(flexible). Plastic bottles are able to float.

Because of this diversity of living and non living things, we need to classify them into groups, so that we can learn more about them. There are many different ways to classify them. Some ways are, their shape, their size, their ability to float or sink or if they are living or non living things.

1. What is classifications?

Classification is a process of putting things/objects into groups. Usually, when we classify things, we sort things into groups based on their characteristics.

2. Why do we classify things?

We classify things so that we can easily see the differences or similarities between a list of things. Classification of things also makes things more organised. We can learn things about objects easily through the classification of things. And also, it makes the comparison of two objects easier.

3.How can we classify things?

Classification can be shown through tables or diagrams. We classify things by their similarities. Eg. colours, shapes, sizes
There is usually more than one way to classify a collection of things.

Eg.
List of things:
Tiger
Lion
Zebras
Pet dogs
Pet cats

You can classify them by:
1) Wild animals VS Pets
2) Omnivorous VS Carnivorous VS Herbivorous

That's an example. Of course, there are collection of things that can be classified more than three ways. For that part, challenge yourself to find it out!
